  • Need help on understanding Performance

    Hi All,

I need to understand below mentioned following things and how they affect performance of a server.

    Handles
    Threads
    Processes

    Physical Memory
    System Cache

    Commit Charge
    Total
    Limit
    Peak

    Kernel Memory
    Total
    Paged
    Non Paged.

Any where it's explained in clear and easy to understand yet effective way. Any case studies and any bench marks for these counters.

Would appreciate your inputs and help on understanding this subject matter.

    Thank You
    Thanks & Regards

May I recommend a little known web site called
It will give you access to all sorts of information

As far as benchmarks go, it really depends on your hardware, OS and running applications -- there are no definite figures

Thank you Ossian. I was trying to get around if somebody already has the information (research) and share with me.

Re: Need help on understanding Performance

The info you're looking for is basically a two year Computer Science education. Seriously, you've got quite a load of research ahead of you that will serve you well through the rest of your career. And I'd like to add that learning is half about the journey as it is the destination. In the process of learning what you've set out in your post you'll piece together many valuable secondary concepts as well.

Why don't you set out to answer these questions deeply and blog about your findings? Sometimes setting your own thoughts and thought processes in writing can help you figure things out that you might not otherwise. Plus, giving back to the community can never do you any ill.
