  • Setting permissions on Windows 2003 Domain

    Hi all,

I need help for Setting permissions on Windows 2003 Domain.
I have a folder with only 1 file in it. I need the users to use the file in the folder and add data the file. I want to prevent them from the option to "save as" the file in the same folder .
    1. What permission do i have to set on the folder or the file?
2.Can i set the file with permission to just add data to it but not remove from it.

    Thanks all off you.

Re: Setting permissions on Windows 2003 Domain

You need to do this 2-way:

First set NTFS permissions on the folder ONLY:
DENY create files / write data
DENY create folders / append data
      DENY delete subfolders and files
      DENY delete
      ALLOW traverse folder /execute files
ALLOW list folder / read data
      ALLOW read attributes
      ALLOW read extended attributes
      ALLOW read permissions

secondly set NTFS permissions on all specific files ONLY:
      DENY delete
      ALLOW traverse folder /execute files
ALLOW list folder / read data
      ALLOW read attributes
      ALLOW read extended attributes
ALLOW create files / write data
ALLOW create folders / append data
      ALLOW write attributes
      ALLOW write extended attributes
      ALLOW read permissions

      Welcome to NTFS HELL

        NTFS Hell indeed!

just remember that DENY permissions will always override ALLOW permissions.
