  • FSMO roles holders

    Hi,

    i have got another question.

    Say In my environment I have 5 Dcs with single domain

    2 in US and another 2 in London and 1 in china

    Roles are assigned as below
    US
    ===
    DC1--Schema Master
    DC2--Domain Naming master

    UK
    ===
    DC3-PDC Emulator
    DC4--RDC Master

    China
    ====
    DC5--Infrastructure Master

    My scenario--I am altering some attributes of object in DC5 (China Server), DC1(US server)(SM) is resposible for any schema changes.. The Link between the sitesUS and China is 128KBps. How can DC1 (Schema Master) take care of the schema changes.

    May be this is an easy question. as I am very new to IT field i wuld like to get an answer for thsi

    Re: FSMO roles holders

    Altering the schema and editing or altering an AD object are 2 different things. If you need to extend the schema (you can not edit) it will allways be done on DC1. You can not do that on all other DC's.
    Hoever if you need to edit /alter an AD object then you can do that on all other DC's (if they are not RODC). After the edit the changes will be replicated to all other DC's on your network. How that is done you can find here:

    REPLmon is a great tool to monitor it
