      Re: dns fail test

It shows only have 1 NIC in the Network Connections.

      In Device manager, it shows:
Multifunction adatpers: HP iLO Management Channel Interfact Driver
Network adapters: HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter

In Event log: File Replication Service, it appears warning Event ID 13508 from Source NtFs

Also, I try to raise domain functional level from windows 2000 native to Windows Server 2003. It pops up windows that 'The functional level could not be raised. The error is: The directory service is busy.'

      What should I do? Thanks.

          All are passed except follows.

          WINS service test. . . . . : Skipped
There are no WINS servers configured for this interface.

          WAN configuration test . . . . . . : Skipped
          No active remote access connections.
          IP Security test . . . . . . . . . : Skipped

Is it better to demote DC2 and then dcpromo it again? Thanks

            Re: dns fail test

Not sure abt the step but If I check the error message it says

            TEST: Records registration (RReg)
Network Adapter [00000001] HP NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter:
Error: Missing GC SRV record at DNS server 192.168.103.246 :
            _ldap._tcp.gc._msdcs.WWUCC.LOCAL

check on the DNS server 192.168.103.246 ... is there any entry for GC .. it could be missing ....

              Also try ipconfig /registerdns

netdiag /fix should fix it though.

Try running another DCDIAG and check your DNS setup on your DC's

Try stoping the netlogon service and after 10 seconds or so start it on...this will try to create the SRV record in case its missing. Run the test again.

I just manually re-create SRV record missing in 2nd DC and then disable 2nd DC firewall. Then use repadmin command to force replication. It all passed in dcdiag and netdiag utiliies. Thanks for help.

Actually, DC1's windows firewall is never turned on. DC2 firewall is ON. Due to UPS out of order, DC1 ever suddenly turned off several times last few months when Office power supply failure. I guess it caused the replication error.

Will you all usually disable windows server 2003 firewall?

                    Re: dns fail test

OS firewall settings are not needed unless you don't have a hardware firewall within your organization or the server you're using is in DMZ.

In DC, If you run services related to the directory services' then I don't think it's required to have firewall enabled in OS level. But again this is what I feel with my experience. Opinion always vary from person to person, so try whichever you're comfortable in.
