  • Event 25. Shadow Copy Could not Grow in time.

Is anyone having problems with Windows 2003 lost Shadow Copies.
I have multiple Servers all setup the same way.
One server will lose its shadow copies at the same time every 1 - 2 weeks.
The loss happens at 10:01pm each time. No backup is running, and no scheduled tasks are running on the server.
The shadow copies are sched to created at 6am and 7pm.

    Thanks,
    Glen

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type vssadmin list writers.
    Check for errors....

This would be a good place to start, you mentioned there's no backup service running so this should be easily ruled out.

What does the Event Viewer say about this incident?
      1 1 was a racehorse.
      2 2 was 1 2.
      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
      2 2 1 1 2

Re: Event 25. Shadow Copy Could not Grow in time.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
There are no errors in the event viewer before or after the event.
No activity in the event before the error.
The VSS Writers are healthy, and I never have a problem backing up the system state. The sytem State or Utility partition. I use BackupExec and it uses Shadow copy to backup both the system state and utility partition.

The backup does not fail on the same day when it does fail, however each time it failes its always at 10:01.
There is no activity on this server at 10:01pm including AV scans.

Re: Event 25. Shadow Copy Could not Grow in time.

Does this one Server have smaller HDDs or Volumes than the others?
How often are the Shadow Copies being created?
How much space is allocated for the Copies?
          1 1 was a racehorse.
          2 2 was 1 2.
          1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
          2 2 1 1 2

Re: Event 25. Shadow Copy Could not Grow in time.

This is one of our larger servers.
434 GB capacity mapped to a SAN
            128gb free
I placed a limit on Shadow copy to use no more then 5% of disk space.
            Two Shadow copies /day
No shadow copies are being created at the time of the error.

            Thanks
