  • IE8, Trusted sites in GPO?

    Hi all,
server 2k3 domain, xp pro client.
I'm trying to access a https site (my WHS) from IE8 on my client pc. I'm a local and domain admin, yet i cannot add the site to 'Trusted Sites' in Internet Settings, its greyed out. (?)
I go the GPMC.msc on the DC and alter the default domain policy:
user config > windows settings > IE maintenance > Security > Security zones and content rating > Modify > [added the https site in question]

    gpupdate /force

Restarted IE8 on client pc, but still won't let me access the site.

As it stands i can only access this https site when i log into TS as admin. It just wont let me access it when logged int to local client as a user with domain admin rights.

Am i altering the correct setting in in the GPO?

    Any help much appreciated.

EDIT: sorted. I opened gpmc.msc from the client pc and altered the same setting as above and it now works. So it seems like it was a local gpo setting?

From memory the trusted sites GPO needs to be imported from the computer that you create the policy on. If said computer is a server then the much more restrictive policies of the server come into play, so it's much better/easier to install the adminpak and do it from a client PC.

Sounds like that's what you ran into, but it's a very poorly documented "feature" of the policy.
