  • Printer Network installation

    Hi ,

I installed a network printer in my DC (windows 2003 AD) server.

Now I want to force the installation of this printer onto all network computers with some default configuration like the default paper source, etc ...

    My questions:
    1. how do i force the installation without asking the users to logoff and login ?
    2. how do I add the default settings (paper source, etc) to the installation ?

    Thanks

    Re: Printer Network installation

    Hi,

I take it you are using a TCP/IP port to connect to the printer.

One answer to your #1 yould be to use a VBS script to map to the printer:

    Code:
    Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
    WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\servername\printersharename"
    WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter \\servername\printersharename
make the script available to the users (i.e On a share) and have them run it manually when needed if you don't want to assign it as a logon script.

    As for the #2

If you make the changes on the printer driver settings on the server, those should propagate to the clients when they map to the printer.
