  • Manually open a port on a W2k server

How do I manually open a port on Windows 2000 Server running sp3/4?

Yes, I am the system admininstrator -> thus my handle

The software I am using needs ports 1470 and 443 to run properly.

I ran a few different port utilities to see what is open and neither port is open.

    Thank you!

Please review the following ports list:

    http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers

You may need to replace the ports that the software use.

You can review MSDN section on instrcutions how to use
    the softare to open ports:

      Opening a port for application

if your application is web based application then its damm easy to do tweak changing port of an application using IIS manager .. and if it using a winsock (vb/java) then you must have a code for that application and in that code you have to explicitly define the port number you wants to use to listen /to run application.

would you precise more which type of application you are using ! to have a good answer.
