  • Problem moving DC from Server 2000 to 2003

    Hello Guys
We have an old Server 2000 with domain controller that we want to stop using, since itís the only DC we bought server 2003 and add it as additional DC. We waited few days and then transferred the 5 roles to the server to 2003 successfully, we installed and configured DNS. We waited few more days.
we want to completely shut down the server 2000 so before we removed it just to make sure we will be fine after, we shutdown the machine and after few hours no one was able to log in to the domain. Its like the server 2003 still looking for the 2000.
Is there is any additional step we need to do in order to make sure the Server 2003 is the main DC?
We checked the GC under the server 2003 and uncheck the 2000Ö
    Thank you

What are the clients configured to use as Primary DNS server? And were is the DNS zone file stored?

Sounds like there are still SRV records left in your DNS server. You should run DCPROMO on that 2000 box and remove the DC from the domain properly.

Is your new Server 2003 machine setup as a GC???

Where are your clients getting an IP address from?? Did you move DHCP across if you use it???
