  • Access account from old domain

    Hi,

The school I worked for has asked me to replace their server because it was very unstable and old.

Halfway done the old server breaks down so I'm forced to use the new one. This works fine, however the users had account in the old domain and had data in their profiles.

How do I access these old profiles from the old domain? When I click them they say "access denied".

    Thanks.

Went from a 2K server to a 2K3 server with a single domain. Serving XP SP3 clients.

Please clarify the scenario. Can you log into the old server at all? Are the client compters all on the new domain now?

The old server is broken, all clients are logged in to the new domain on the new server.

If you have connected the old Server's HDDs to the new Server, Take Ownership of the old Server files. This will give you access to the files and allow you to copy the to the new Server.

Were you able to transfer the FSMO Role to the new Server before the old one died? http://www.petri.com/transferring_fsmo_roles.htm
If not then you will need to Seize them. http://www.petri.com/seizing_fsmo_roles.htm

Thanks I will certainly look into it. But since it's for 1 user only I'll try some of my Frankenstein powers to see if I can get the server up one more time.

Re: Access account from old domain

I've looked in to it. I have acessed the files using the admin account of the computer. The problem is that I'm retrieving mail and the passwords and even the adresses are unknown here (I know..).

So I want to log in on the old domain account and do an export of the Outlook accounts.
