  • Running a 2003 server with exchange on a 2000 with AD

    Hi.

First let me start of with. This is a great site, think i have found my second home on the internet now.

OK my question is pretty basic.

I have 3 sites running active directory. One in East London (SA), Johannesburg and Botswana. They all retrieve their emails form our exchange server in Johannesburg. We are all connected to each other. All servers are running 2000 server.

I want to know, if i put a 2003 server on the network just running as a server and not adding it to active directory if it would complicate anything on the network?

I have set up a testing station and i really like the enhancements that 2003 and exchange 2003 have to offer.

Hope i have everything in there.

i don't see any problem adding windows 2003 as member server.
    Good Luck

      Hi Shai.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Still trying to find my feet in this huge world of technology.

Just want to clarify that i will be installing Exchange 2003 on this server as well. Would that have an impact? I suppose not unless i ask our ISP to route email through it.

thats not what you said in first place.
installing exchange 2003 causing an update to the schema of ad.
its different from installing 2003 as member server.
you have to run forest prep and ad prep. it completely different
        Good Luck

Sorry i apologise that i didn't mention that.

OK so i if add the server as a member server nothing will be changed. Unless however if add exchange 2003 to the server, then it will make changes to AD.

Thanks a million for your help Shai.

          Have a good one.
