  • User account migration wizard errors

I am attempting to migrate users from an existing domain in an existing forest to a new domain in a new forest.

When using User account migration wizard I enter the source domain and DC, no problem.

In the Target the dropdown doesn't show the new domain. I attempt to add it and it says it can't find it error 1355.

The existing DC can ping the new DC, and visa versa. But it can't find it as a DC in the wizard.

What's the problem? Please help me out on this.

Re: User account migration wizard errors

When you say the source domain can ping the target domain:
Do you mean by IP address, or by hostname ?

    Try the following:
    nslookup _ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.Company.Net
(replace company.net with your domain name, for example macking.net)

Try adding your new domain name to the search suffix, and adding the DNS server in the new domain to your DNS servers string.. ?

Re: User account migration wizard errors

I can ping by IP address and by hostname to the server name.

It won't find the domain when using:
      nslookup _ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.Orlando.Local

How would I add the new domain name to the search suffix if it can't find the domain?

Same for adding the DNS server, I have added the DNS server in the new domain as an A record so far.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Re: User account migration wizard errors

go into network settings on the computer you have ADMT installed on.

go into tcpip settings, and advanced, then dns.
Add the IP address of the name server for the new domain to the list.
Add the suffix (orlando.local) to your search suffix list.

        See if that helps..
