  • URL redirection that is searchengine friendly

    Windwos 2003, latest IIS.

I want to direct a second domain I purchased to the one I already have. I want the URL in the browser to change to the first domain for any request made on the second one. It has to be search engine friendly, how can I do it?

There are probably a couple of ways to do this, but here's how I do it:

Create a new web site in IIS. On the Home Directory tab and select the third option (A redirection to a URL) and type in the URL of the first web site. Select the first and third check boxes.

Point your public A or CNAME record at the ip address you want to run the new web site on and add that ip address to the web server. Make sure that the new web site is bound to this ip address.

I don't know if this is search engine friendly, but I haven't heard anything to the contrary for our web sites.
