  • block access to WWW by web browser

What i would like to do is block access to the www unless a user has a specific web browser.

background - windows server 2003 AD, we have a SOE environment XP pro with IE6 (don't laugh) and i want to restrict access to only this one browser. Users currently connect via a proxy (ISA2006 which up streams to trend IWSS for content filter). and i am in the process of changing this straight to Trend IWSS.

I have notice installs of Firefox and IE7/8 around and i dont want them to be able to connect to the ISA/IWSS.

I thought this might be possible by group policy (preventing app to run) or a rule on the isa perhaps?

    any help would be appreciated.

You could create a software restriction policy. A hash or path rule or a combination of the two would probably do it.

You can try to block this in ISA server.
For this you need to configure the HTTP Filter and add signatures based on the user agent of the browser.
      A list of user agents:

yes worked great, thanks again, i added a couple of signature blocks, (firefox and MSIE 8.0)

My little fishing expedition has already netted a couple of users running firefox and IE8
