  • Unable to conect to domain

Hey guys this is my first post here and I am having an issue with server 2003. I can't join a domain and I have been trying to fix this for weeks but to no avail. I am trying to study for my mcse tests and recently setup server 2003 and was reading in my books how to have a client join a domain but everytime I go to join the domain it just wont work! I get as far as entering in the username and password then it times out saying network path not found. I have no clue on how to fix this and I am desperate as to getting this to work. I can ping the ip address of the server from the client as well as ping the server name itself and that works so I have no clue on how to fix it. Google has also failed me so any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Re: Unable to conect to domain

Did you DCPROMO the 2003 server and get DNS working correctly? We need a bit more info on what you have done so far.

Re: Unable to conect to domain

Sorry for the lack of information. No I didn't need to run dcpromo. When I installed the OS it ran through all the setup for me but it did install dns dhcp and AD. I configured the internet and everything myself so I do have an active connection. I am completely new to server 2003 so as far as I know dns is configured the right way. Like I said I can ping the server from the client and and ping the ip address of the server as well and both work. If there is anymore information you need I will be more than happy to give you all you ask for in hopes that I can get this issue resolved.

Re: Unable to conect to domain

Was the dcpromo, DNS, DHCP all scripted or was this a vanilla install of server 2003???

It was just a vanilla install.

Yes I do, when I did the install it let me go ahead and set all of that up. I even ran Dcdiag and everything passed if that helps at all.

Re: Unable to conect to domain

Change the DNS server on the server to its ip address.

Add your dns suffix to the client machine.

Try that and see what happens.
