        Re: RPC Server unavailable

        Hi,

RPC is an acronym for Remote Procedure Call, and typically is used to allow a program running on one computer to access services on another networked computer. It’s "typically" because Microsoft added some of its own extensions to the standard RPC protocol and deeply intertwined RPC into the inter-process communication of Windows OS components. So if RPC stops working, lots of other Windows features will fail as well.
There are some viruses and spy ware that try to exploit an RPC server software bug
If the RPC server is not running, go to Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / Administrative Tools / Services then double click on the Remote Procedure Call entry and either start the server, or set it to start automatically on system startup.

If RPC was missing from the Services list, you need to edit the registry configuration of the server.

        Regards,

        L8ians

            L8ians,

Unless you are Bob and too modest to link to your own site, I'd suggest you put in a link where you got the info from, especially if it's a straight Copy&Paste and not diluted. http://askbobrankin.com/rpc_server_unavailable.html

            Thanks

              Re: RPC Server unavailable

I had that problem myself couple of times, and always it was the wrong dns server specified in properties for NIC. You can change the DNS settings of that machine via registry, if you cannot access it physically.
