  • install updates

    hi all

    i always wonder
    should i install updates like ie or outlook express
    on a server even though i dont use them
    like on 2003 dc?

    IMHO yes, as someone else might use them and you do not want security holes in your system

      I agree with Ossian. In edition, look into removing the software no longer used. Outlook Express, Messenger etc are some of the first windows components I remove.

        Yeah, removing or disabling unused services is part of the system hardening process. The following checklist can be used as a guide: http://security.utexas.edu/admin/win2003.html
