  • Allow connection to print share without authentication

    Hi,

We have a print share on a windows 2003 server that I was asked to make available to anyone without having the visitors authenticate/provide credentials.

They want to use the printer share this way because it installs the drivers automatically for them instead of having to point to the IP of the printer and finding the drivers themselves.

What would be the best method for this? Do I enable guess or anonymous logon? Would this allow them to connect to \\server\printshare without getting prompted for credentials?

To top it off, there are file shares on this server that shouldn't be accessible to the visitors.

    Thanks in advance.

I would not do this. security wise. As an administrator you don't want foreign machines connecting to a domain server with doing some form of authentication. You cannot control your network anymore since everyone can bring their infectedmachines on your network.
You'll have to choose for a "guest" account or si plybuya little portable printer to ensure security.

    Just my 2 cents
    bio..

Try adding the Anonymous Logon to the Print permissions of the printer.
