  • How to disable drag and drop in TS

    Hello,
I have problems with users at remote sites dragging and dropping folders into the wrong place and not even realising it in terminal services. The extra latency over the internet can make dragging and dropping a problem. Does anyone know how to disable dragging and dropping in Explorer? I don’t want to prevent users from copying, pasting and deleting just dragging and dropping?

There is loads of people on the net with this issue but no resolve.

Now the boss has got it in his head it's virus, I think he's probably the virus but I can't prove that.
The issue is clumsy users but they have been told time and time again to use copy/paste so I have to get dragging disabled somehow!

    Thanks,

    Ben

    Educate the users?
I don't think it's possible to disable drag and drop. Maybe denying them write permissions on those folders?

I'm really surprised there is no reg entry to disable this.

Drag and Drop is such a core function of the OS that I would imagine it's difficult to do. I've read (but not tried) several articles about adjusting IE security zone settings for the Local Computer and Intranet zone to disable Drag and Drop. I've also read articles about setting the mouse Drag setting higher as it will take more effort to initiate a Drag and Drop with the mouse, cutting down on accidental Drag and Drop operations. If you Google for it you'll come up with a plethora (yes, I said plethora) of information.

Are you sure you don't mean a superfluity of information

I probably have seen the same articles as Joe did.
But also like what Joe said, it's a core part of the OS. You are simply better of by denying permissions to it or to educate the users.

              Superfluity, of course. Thanks Tom.
