  • Memory utilization

    Hello,
We are using Lotus Domino ver 8.0.1 on Windows 2003 - 32 std edition. It is observed that server avaible physical memory goes on decresing. As per IBM requirement we used hardware. We having 16 GB Physical Memory & kept 48 Gb for Page File. But always system using Physical Memory not Page File. When we check with IBM , they said no problem from application.Every Night we restart the server to release physical memory.
Kindly suggest what need to do.

    Regards,

    Re: Memory utilization

Ah, yes, using hardware... probably a wise move....
Since this is 32 bit Standard Edition, it will not use more than 4 Gb without the \PAE switch
    (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...AE/pae_os.mspx)

This may or may not be related to your issue, which sounds like a memory leak. Have you patched Domino and checked with their support for this issue

      Re: Memory utilization

We aleady added /PAE switch in boot.ini file. System shows 16 GB physical memory .For memory leak Domino has released hot fix 453 which we alredy applied .We installed 32 bit Lotus Domino Application ( Mail )on 64 Bit OS.
I think more setup information need to provide.
We having Domino in Cluster mode . 2 Server loaded with Windows 2003 -std -sp2 (64 bit ) O/S where as 32 Bit Domino ver is installed.
IBM has checked the log then they only suggested to check from O/S side.
      Kindly suggest now.

        Re: Memory utilization

Your first post states Server 2003 is 32bit and your next says 64bit.
Can you make sure you write down exactly what you have please. Take your time otherwise it isn't going to help us help you.

What cluster is it? Veritas? Microsoft clusters require Enterprise Edition.

If the application takes but doesn't release memory then it still appears to be suffering from a leak, even if you have applied the patch. Did you do it to both nodes (if that is valid for Domino)?

Your first post almost implies you have set a 48GB page file! ?
        Is that correct?
        cheers

          Hello
We having Windows 2003 std - 64 bit server. We installed 32 bit Domino 8.0.1 in cluster mode .There 2 differernt h/w boxes .Domino in Active -passive mode. For memory problem we applied patch on both the server. Then also we facing problem.Physical memory on server is 16 Gb.Page file set to 36 Gb.In task manager memory details get shown as below

          Total 16771724
          Available 2554032
          System Cache 14462808.
          PF uSSAGE 2.66 GB
Here System cache goes on incresing and Avaiable memory goes on decresing.

            Re: Memory utilization

If you can see the memory decreasing then can you see how much the Dominio process is using over time?
            cheers

              Re: Memory utilization

              Hello ,
We using domino with 32 bit , so it will take max to max 4 gb. But IBM confirmed saying Domino takeing 1 gb only.So check from O/S Side.
System Cache for speed up the process , so it will not decrease the performance. But we get less memory alret from system.
So first it should clear the used memory or fixed the required amount of memory to be used for system cache.

                  Re: Memory utilization

I would reckon that this maybe part of the problem

[2B48:0002-2904] OSAdjustFileSystemCache> NOT a valid OS, so NOT launching cacheset
