Re: Could not locate time server

Where are you running the command???

Do you have sites setup in your domain???

Do you have a VPN setup between sites???

Have you setup your PD emulator to query a time server??

Bit more information about your setup will help alot.

Re: Could not locate time server

Kindly check UDP 123 if its open...or its being filtered out..Normally Antivirus blocks it,disable third party apps and try syncing..

          >Make sure correct registry settings are ther on clients and PDC..Check registry

          HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Par amaters

I think it shall be NTP for PDC and NT5DS for clients/..

Re: Could not locate time server

            Hi,

Networking devices such as routers and switches etc use the NTP protocol to synchronise their time with a Time source unlike Windows clients and servers which use the Windows Time service.
If you have set an external Time source on your networking devices with a command like for example:
            Code:
Router(config)# ntp server <IP address of NTP Server>
that wont affect the windows environment which uses W32Time service in the following hierarchy:
            • All client desktop computers nominate the authenticating domain controller as their in-bound time partner.
            • All member servers follow the same process that client desktop computers follow.
            • All domain controllers in a domain nominate the primary domain controller (PDC) operations master as their in-bound time partner.
            • All PDC operations masters follow the hierarchy of domains in the selection of their in-bound time partner.

            Ref: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042

In the above article you'll see how to configure your PDC emulator.
Are there any W32Time events logged in the event viewer?
