  • Task Sceduler - is not running Access is denied

When I start a Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2 I get the following error: "SERVICE CONTROL MANAGER: At least one service could not start" and I see that Task Scheduler service is not running. When I try to start the service i get "Access is denied" even if I have administrator priviledge.
When I try to restart in SAFE MODE to view SECURITY settings on folder "C:/Windows/Tasks", computer keeps restart continuously.
My Windows server 2003 is Domain Controller.
    Can you help me?
    10x.

It sounds suspiciously like the conficker virus. I would suggect doing a google search to determine how to clean it up.

You mention that you've stopped it from spreading but have you followed the instructions to remove it?

If Avira does't detect it it means that i don't have it.
On the FILE SERVER Task Scheduler service is running ok.

What does the file server have to do with it? It's possible for one machine to be infected and another machine not infected. I understand that you think it's not infected, but what do you have to lose by following the steps? You don't have an answer for your problem, so what's the harm in following my suggestion even if it turns out to be wrong? The problem with troubleshooting a problem is not in doing something that doesn't work, it's in not doing anything.

I follow the instructions from MICROSOFT to remove CONFICKER and I did not find any worm.
How to reinstall Task Scheduled Service?

You say that you get the error when logged in with administrator priviledge. What happens when you log-on with the Administrator account itself?

Also, what do the system etc event logs show?

Check the configuration of the service:
Ensure that the startup type is set to Automatic, and the Local System Account is selected on the Log On tab, and Allow Service to Interact with Desktop options. And verify the service is enabled for the current Hardware profile. For both the Task Scheduler service and for the Secondary Logon service.

                      Then Reboot.

right.. right.. and on my in-law's computer on the weekend, the fact that Mcafee says they didn't have a virus or trojan meant it didn't have one.

Apart from the fact that they DID.
