      Re: service

      Correctamundo, Google knows all!

      http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc560983.aspx

The Windows SharePoint Services Tracing (SPTrace) service is used by Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 to manage trace output of the call stack. When trace logging is enabled, administrators can specify the path used to store the trace logs. This log file is reused by many applications that are built on top of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

          Re: service

Please note - this is a guess, based on the information in this thread.

If you stop the Tracing service, you will no longer be able to trace the output. Tracing is usually used to debug things.. if you're not actively and regularly debugging sharepoint, you may not need this service.

However - it appears that the datbase you're trying to send the Trace information to is not available. Ensure your SQL Server is running and accepts remote connections..

              Re: service

then check via add/remove programs and ensure there is no sharepoint stuff installed.

You could probably also just set the startup type of the service to disabled..

Well, if you are happy you do not use Sharepoint on this server, just disable the service
