  • Creating a new dns zone

I'm in the process of a domain rename and have all the documents to guide me through this. When I creat the new zone shouldn't the srv records be created automatically? or do I need to add them manually? Or are they added during the rename?

srv records should be created when you promo a DC.

Re: Creating a new dns zone

If the appropriate DNS zones do not exist, you must create the DNS zone or zones that will contain the SRV resource records for the renamed domains. It is also highly recommended that you configure the DNS zone or zones to allow secure dynamic updates. This DNS zone requirement applies to each domain that is renamed as a part of the domain rename operation.

You only need to make sure the DNS zone exists and the Dynamic updates are enabled.
The Net Logon service then uses dynamic updates to register the SRV RR on the DNS zone after the rename.
