  • Resources between Trusts

    hi,

i've created a trust between two diffrent forests so i can access resources from one forest to another.

after the trust was completed i applied permissions on the other domain resource (share) with sercurity group of the other domain's forest.

while i was trying to access the share from the other forest i got this error :

"Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller,
either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied."

i tried to apply "Everyone" permissions so i can be sure that the problem is in the permissions sets, but it wasn't helping.

i'm not denying any port in the access list between those servers , i have forwarders between the dns seems to work fine and the trust succeeded to be built.

i tried to find something on the net but i didnt find something useful.

i'll be glad for any help.
    thanks!

      Re: Resources between Trusts

      thanks for your reply,
      i have windows 2003 enterprise sp1.

the link is not helping very much.

i would like to add something,

i can see the shares of the other domain's forest but i cant open them,
although i can open SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares.

i found on GPO that NETLOGON can access anonymously but i didnt find nothing about SYSVOL.
i even tried to contain the same permissions of sysvol on another share but still nothing.

Where are your GCs and FSMO roles located? You could look into making sure the Infrastructrue master role is on a DC that isn't a GC in each forest route. Is it a Forest Trust you've setup? Is the resources in the root domain or do you have a number of child domains as well?

            1. gc and fsmo are located on the primary domain.
            2. yes. it is a forest trust
            3. the share resource is in the trusting domain's forest, i'm accessing the share from the trusted domain and there i get this error, moreover i dont have any child domain.

I see. What kind of security group is it? Universal or Global? Are users or Groups members of it?

Try creating a global group in the trusted domain and then applying that group in the trusting domain on the folder.
