  • DNS creating random ip addresses

    An A record is being created randomly see attached. 2 ip addresses for the same machine name. The second NIC is not plugged in at all, and is actually disabled.

    Any help?

    Do you have RRAS enabled on the server? Could be the termination IP address of a VPN set to register itself in DNS. If that is the issue you can tell RRAS not to register the IP address to avoid name resolution conflicts.

        Where exactly do you tell RAS not to register the IPs? Thanks in advance.

          It won't happen on remote access clients, it'll be a site-to-site or demand dial VPN if this is the issue. As I recall you right click on the connection in the RRAS console, choose properties and then it's in there somewhere. Advanced settings I think, it's one of those things you don't do often so I don't remember the exact steps.
