  • Problems with disable USB adm file

    Hello all,

I'm trying to import an .adm file to block all my USB ports on my Windows XP clients via GP.

    I'm using this link:

    http://www.petri.com/disable_usb_disks_with_gpo.htm

I import the adm file with no problems but when I look at the entries under Administrative Templates, Custom Policy Settings and its blank, no entries to change??

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Rob

Re: Problems with disable USB adm file

I take it you are looking under Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Custom Policy Templates and you don't get a 'Restrict Drives' policy. When you use the add/remove templates wizard, is it listed there (removable_storage). It may be worth importing the ADM template again.

Once imported, in the gpedit.msc or GPMC, depending whether it is local or domain based, you need to go to View, Filtering and remove the tick from the 'Only show policy settings that can be fully managed' check box.

You then get a view of the 4 settings that can be used on the policy. This will not effect any USB memory sticks that have been previously used on a machine.
