  • 32bit Server 2003 addressing more than 4GB RAM

    And I quote;

    Referring to 2003 Datacenter Edition.

    "...with support on 32-bit platforms for 32-way SMP with 64 GB of RAM and on 64-bit platforms for 64-way SMP with 512GB of RAM."

    This is from the 70-290 Training Kit Blue Book (2nd edition) published by Microsoft Press.

    32bit OS addressing more than 4GB of RAM?

    I think there's something here I'm not understanding.

    I don't have a problem per se, but I am planning on taking the 70-290 test to get a quick MCP and I came across this tidbit while I was studying up on the different versions of 2003.

    What don't you understand? The OS supports hardware address remapping, physical address extensions, and various other techniques that allow for a 32bit OS to address more memory.

    Read this, it should help clear it up.
