    When running ADPREP/FORESTPREP,
doesn't the schema master need to be offline
    until forestprep completes?
    When running ADPREP/DOMAINPREP does the
ifrastructure master need to be online?

      adprep

We found documentation stating that the when running forestprep on the schema master, that the schema master should be offline until completed. Then reconnect and let it propagate.
Are you stating that all controllers are online during this process?

The ADPRER /forestprep expands the Schema of the Forest. The operation is done on the DC that holds the schema or in other words the schema master. Therefore, if the DC with the schema master role is offline the schema can't be expanded.

see option 4 under Resoloution. Microsoft says to take the schema master offline. Mistake on thier part?

Yes but what does the article talk about?

"Cannot Promote a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller into a Windows 2000 Forest"

Meaning - is this the regular adperep operation, or should you, in your eyes, do it ONLY if you've had the error that the kb article disscusses?

You know, one does have to read the whole article before jumping on the wagon, what do you think?
              Cheers,
