  • Migrating from NT4 to win 2003 hopw many domain controllers

    Hi Guys

I am sure this has been asked on the Forum before .

We are planning to migrate from a NT domain to a Win 2003 AD . We currently have 1 PDC & 2 BDCs I am trying to find out how many domain controllers I need for the new Win 2003 AD . I have around 45 users and around 16 dial in lines for about 180 others users accessing a mail server. I have read wonderful articles on Win 2003 consolidation but no figures are mentioned.

All depends on what apps you are running on your network, how much work will the users be doing, etc etc. You also mentioned mail but is that exchange or otherwise.

I would say that 3DC's is plenty for your setup, but again you know your network so you are the best qualified to judge how many you will need to spread the load.

If all servers are in one location then two are sufficient for redundancy. One will do for performance, easily.
