  • What is the best way to set NTP time for the DC

I have read a few articles and some say to place "peers" in the NTPSERVER field and some say to just put one from the list of NIST Time Servers from the web. Please help. My DC is losing it's date and time and throwing the entire network off.

    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

I guess this is the part that is confusing:

Note Peers is a placeholder for a space-delimited list of peers from which your computer obtains time stamps. Each DNS name that is listed must be unique. You must append ,0x1 to the end of each DNS name. If you do not append ,0x1 to the end of each DNS name, the changes made in step 5 will not take effect.

Here's what I do on my PDCs and it works fine.

        w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:nist1.symmetricom.com /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update

Go here: http://tf.nist.gov/service/time-servers.html and find a local time server. I use nist1.symmetricon.com because I'm in Kalifornya.

And that is what I believe the links I provided boil down to. Shame micrsoft make is so darn difficult to try and understand sometimes. Truck, you just have to keep reading the KB articles and looking at the Registry "syntax" etc until they finally make sense. First time I did one it took me about 4 to 5 hours before it finally clicked.

Garen, I thought it was spelt Kelly-fornya.
