  • Scan for DNS-servers in network

I want to scan a specific internal network for the precence of DNS-servers.

Anyone know of a good freeware?

One way to do it would be with a Port scanner such as
Auotoscan (Pretty good free scanner and IDS).
Usually a DNS server service on a MS machine listens on port 53.

    Cheers

Thanks L4ndy, been looking for something similar myself. Have been using gpinventory tool from Microsoft but this seems better.

Please remember that scanning and finding an open port on a system does not necessarily mean that it is open to the relevant service.

I get alot of results in that need to be "fingerprinted" 50+ results...

Is there a way to easily find all DNS-servers in a network?

Problem now is that all the nodes that dont have a "fingerprint" in AutoScan does not show up with i.e. DNS service when I search for DNS. Only the windows servers that run DNS appear in the search...

          Ideas?

Well, port scanning is one way of doing it that I can think of and as Willieb1 mentioned it is not 100% accurate because it only scans for listening ports but can't guarantie that the right service is listening behind that port.

Regarding the OS Fingerprinting, maybe the Fingerprints list in Autoscan is dated and needs updating. Unfortunatelly that might need to be done manually.
