  • DNS Record...LDAP....GUID

If we are manually creating dns records like,..
_ldap._tcp.4f904480-7c78-11cf-b057-00aa006b4f8f.domains. _msdcs.contoso.com. which allows a client to locate dc in a domain on the basis of GUID....from where will we get GUID to create this record manually.

    thanks.

Why do you want to create those records manually?

i think the guy screwed the ForestDNS zone with dns server console ....
nd if yes anyhow u can get it back via dnscmd nd netdiag tools

also if u r manually creating srv records ( or any other dynamic )
be sure to EDIT the Security Context (ACL) of that record nd reflect to right changes

Not sure why you want to do it manually but if you wanted to go down that route there is a tool called DNSSrvRec from Joeware that might come in handy.

            Thanks for info.
Actually i am trying to implement dns manually instead of automatic..for training purposes.... cause i felt difference in understanding dns when automatically setup by ads.as lots of SRV records lik mentioned are automat. created. in manual dns settup i just know to setup forward zone etc. so i tried to study about these records.

            .........
            harmondeep
where is ACL for those records located....?

            Thanks

I rather think that you look at the technet website and read the explinations about the different records.
Messing with those records can give you a lof of weird issues, like replication failure, or a client can't find an exchange server (via de GC) etcetc.

                Thanks Dumber for info,
I was just working on these records for the purpose of manually setting up DNS in an environment where we cannot setup automatic dns. i know that SRV records created for ads are not created when we manually setup dns. its just forward zone created and SOA and host, NS record......

                thanks.

                  Re: DNS Record...LDAP....GUID

                  Here's what I'm thinking:

Since AD requires DNS but does not require AD integrated DNS, a DC will create the appropriate records on a non AD integrated DNS server at the time of domain creation. But, since you're dealing with things after the fact, why not dcpromo a new DC pointing it at your non AD integrated DNS server and let it create the appropriate records. I have to say that I've never tried this but it's worth a shot.

                    Re: DNS Record...LDAP....GUID

Ok i have 2 domains, dns is automatically configrd on prim domain DC, while on child domain dc i did setup dns manually, i installed isa server 2004 managment console at child domain dc to manage remotly isa server on prim domain dc. i received eror message server is not operational while connecting to configuration storage. i created ADS integrated zone in child domain DC.. Now isa server console connects to isa server on primary domain DC but gives message that data could not be retreived form server..if i use nslookup on child domain dc it does not translate dc of prim domain.
