  • Error while accessing NullShares

Hi, I want to have few shares on my system to be null shares. For that, I have given everyone full control on share permissions and added that share name to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserve r\parameters\Nullsessionshares registry key.

But still I am unable to access the share. The below command is executing successfully but when I am switching to that share, it is throwing access denied error.

    c:\>net use q: \\myserver\myshare /user:"" "" /persistant:no
    The command completed successfully

    c:\>q:
    Access Denied
    c:\>

Can you someone help me, how to troubleshoot this issue? I am not sure if there is any log this activity.

    Thanks,
    Sitaram

You know that creating null shares is quite a security breach?

hi, on the server go to the properties of the shared folder, check the share permissons and the NTFS permissions.

        Re: Error while accessing NullShares

        Hi,

Can you be a little more specific about what do you mean with "NullShares"?
As mentioned before a Null session is a security concern and often used for enumeration purposes. If for any reason you want to achieve that though, you need to explicitly grant access to "Anonimous logon" as it is not included in the Everyone Group by default.
