  • Remove failed DC from AD

on remote site new DC was installed instead of failed one.
The name of the new one was changed the IP was kept the same
How to properly remove old name?

    More details:
the site is connected by dedicated link to the head office.
Users accessing apps on HO servers and Internet through HO only.

Presently, old and new name reffers to the same IP in NSLOOKUP

Do you have one domain with two sites? One forest with two domains? Two forests with a trust between them? Please describe the setup you had and the role the previous server played.

Re: Remove failed DC from AD

I just steped in to this env. for other project so don't have full info.
The question is related to remote office. Admin is not available for couple of days. I feel there is no reason to escalate the issue up because everything works fine. There are errors in Event Viewer. First thing I guess to properly remove the old name.

The forest contains multiple domains. The domain contains multiple sites.
I checked couple they have one or two DCs.
Site that we talking about contains one DC
Failed server was GC (I can see it in sites and services. It shows now failed and new name. New server is not GC)

What are the errors in the event logs?

I used the link provided by uk_network on petri.co.il
            used ntdsutil
            And basically resolved the issue.

            Thanks.
