  • need suggestion for optimal configuration of DNS in remote office

I added DC in a remote location that has direct link with head office.
Now I want to add DNS role for this server. It is one and only DC in this office.

If possible detailed configuration, like secondary, forwarders, replication.

    Thanks.

Assuming replication is already working for you then just install it. It should then populate automatically.
You can setup forwarders in it to your local ISP etc assuming you have internet access and want to do it this way.
    cheers

Would secondary DNS be more appropriate?

That depends on the structure of your Org.
By providing a bit more info you might get a better and more accurate response.
What's the logical and physical structure of your AD. (Single domain/multiple sites)? How fast is your WAN/Direct link? How is DNS currently implemented (AD integrated or not)?

But users from other sites not accessing this particular.

Users from the site accessing Head office.

You can do it either way but in my opinion I'd set the Client DNS queries to be resolved within the site first (Site DNS configured as Primary) that way the AD Replication will avoid any DNS traffic through the WAN link.
Configure the DC itself to have the Head Off DNS server as the primary.
