  • IIS 6.0 Authentication Question

I have IIS running on a Windows Server 2003 box inside of a Windows 2003 functional domain. This morning I was assigned the task of password protecting a part of our intranet site.

I selected the folder to password protect, went to Authentication and setup Integrated Windows Authentication. This seemed to work fine, but everyone either needed to enter their username as [email protected] or domain\user to enter the website. This was not good enough as most people would not know to put @domain or domain\.

I then enabled Digest Auth and set the realm thinking it would solve the issue. Still users were prompted to enter their username as @domain or domain\. But then I turned Integrated Windows Auth off, kept Digest on, and users were able to login as username with no @domain or domain\.

My question is, why? How come I had to take off Integrated to remote the @domain?
