I'm performing AD restructure from windows 2000 to windows 2003. I would like to know when you run forestprep to extend the windows 2003 schema on windows 2000 forest is it required to stop the AD out bound replication the domain its carried out so that we can roll-back.

    Thanks

    Re: Active directory Forestprep

you asked two different questions in one sentence.

    1) Running ForestPrep is one of the things need to be done to prepare your Windows 2000 Forest accepting a windows 2003 Domain Controller.
    2) Disabling outbound replication is recommended before Forest prep
on the Schema Master DC giving you an option of rolling back if anything goes wrong by restoring the DC to a previous state.
if you do not disable outbound replication or you opened it , then restore of the DC would yield no good even in authoritative restore.
authoritative restore, only restores Domain Data Partition/Configuration Partition/Application Partitions (DNZ,etc), it does not restore Scema Partition.
