  • Remove Child Domain and add new PDC

    HI Guys,

My Child Domain got 2 Windows 2000 Domain controllers. I need to remove that child domain and add new windows 2003 Domain controller.

Please let me know if i'm doing correct or wrong step?

    1. If i install new Server with windows 2003 SP1
    2. send to remote office with my main DNS server IP configured
    3. Connect to Remote office network
    4. run dcpromo and add as an additional domain controller to main domain.

    5. Install DNS
    6. Install DHCP
    7. Install WINS

    8. Add Windwos XP Client to new Server
    9. Configure Outlook
    10. Add Printers.

    11. Run DCpromo and remove both Windows 2000 DC from old Servers. ( Then Upgrade to windows 2003?)
    12. remove Exchange Server ( One Old server got exchange and DC)

    13. Add all the workstation.

    14. How do i set to login to this new DC only for remote office users? is that automatic or do i need GPO?

Do you want to remove the Child Domain completely or just the Old Domain Controllers in the Child domain?

if you add the new DC, then remove the old DCs , you would still have the child domain in place

Re: Remove Child Domain and add new PDC

        HI,

Thanks, I just want to remove the Child Domain Completely and Put new windows 2003 DC. With the following steps

        4. run dcpromo and add as an additional domain controller to main domain.

I just going to add to our Parent Domain so No one going to login to child domain.

        11. Run DCpromo and remove both Windows 2000 DC from old Servers. ( Then Upgrade to windows 2003?)

Then i thought this will remove the child domain?

the demote all your Child DCs and you got rid of your child Domain (I think).
