  • Encryption with windows 2003 or any software

My organization has decided to encrypt all the critical folders in our file server. This job has been given to me and I am not sure how do I proceed with this process.

My Organization is not very particular with inbuilt encryption with windows 2003. We can use any third party encryption and decryption too.. But this is the requirement.

Encryption should be done to the critical folder and particular user should be able to view the files and edit them in the domain. And also if the encrypted file is sent to customer they should be able to open the file through certificate or password.

Is this requirement possible windows 2003 Encryption or is there any software that can help me out with this requirement.

    Pleas elet me know..

    Awaiting your response!

    Thanks!

If you want people outside your domain to access the files, forget Windows Encryption as it only applies at the point of storage

If its Word or Excel files, why not use the native password protection they both have?

Re: Encryption with windows 2003 or any software

Actually after encryption of file through Windows 2003 in administrator access I sent this encrypted file to my mail id which is outside domain I could open the file. This worked just fine but when the specified user want to access the encrypted file in the domain it ended up not allowing the user to open. Hence I am little confused on how to give access to the users to this encrypted file.

This is Encryption has been given orders by audit for some standards.. Hence We have to use Encryption and decryption method.. Excel and word password protection might not work for our requirement.

if its for compliance purposes, get a specialist consultant. We can give you general advice on encryption, but its YOUR job on the line if the advice is wrong!

Have you considered using a 3rd-party software called PGP.

I used the software about 10 years ago and was very happy with it.
