  • Win2003 Ent. edition does not recognize my 4GB RAM

Maybe someone knows (before I go digging in Microsoft's resources) why my Win2003 Ent. edition server does not properly display my 4GB or RAM I have installed on the server?

    Some info:

    Code:
        Motherboard:
          CPU Type Intel Pentium 4E, 3000 MHz (3.75 x 800)

          Memory Slots 4
Notice that I have 4 DIMMs installed, each with 1GB or RAM. BIOS correctly displays the memory size, so does AIDA32:

Looking at MSINFO32 it also shows I have 4GB or RAM:

    Code:
Total Physical Memory - 4,096.00 MB
Available Physical Memory - 2.45 GB
Total Virtual Memory - 9.50 GB
Available Virtual Memory - 8.82 GB
Notice how the total amount of RAM is correct, but the available RAM is not correct.

However, looking at the Task Manager and My Computer properties I only see 3.25GB or RAM (see attached pictures).

    Things I did so far:
    • 1) I've upgraderd my BIOS (or so I think) with the latest version. Before the upgrade the display showed I had less than 3GB. It now shows I have 3.25.
      2) I've tried using the /3GB switch in Boot.ini.
      3) I've tried using /PAE in Boot.ini.
      4) SP1 for Win2003 is installed.

    Any other ideas?

It is interesting it only displays 2918MB on the below screen. Does that 2918 change if 1 (one) module is removed and what RAM amount is displayed with only 3 modules installed?
Does it display correctly if you have only 2 modules installed?
    Has SP1 been installed yet?
Have you tried the BIOS with the Default (failsafe) settings?

Yes, SP1 is installed. I haven't tried to use only 3 of the chips, and as I said, after upgrading the BIOS with a utility found on Intel's site the memory status has grown from 2.9GB to 3.25GB. Meaning all 4 chips work (otherwise 3X1024 is less then 3.25GB).

Do you think I should try chip combinations?

Also, as I now know, /PAE is not supported on all hardware. I only tried it to see if it had any effect. It doesn't.

Second paragraph Physical and Virtual Memory is worth reading.
