  • NTbackup problem in win2k3

Whenever I try to create a system state backup, NTbackup completely fails to do so. Almost as soon as the NTbackup GUI pops up, it disappears and creates a 2kb bkf file.

Now, long story short, this erroneous behavior directly coincides with my creation of "exposed" or mounted VSS snapshots for the drive of C. I use vshadow mount a VSS snapshot of C to a specified folder, so that my backup script is able to pull PST files and other possibly locked files. When I unmount the snapshot, however, NTbackup works just fine.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    vshadow snapshot info:
    * SNAPSHOT ID = {5402273a-aeba-4695-9386-8716856cea1f} ...

Have a look at this possible solution. http://absoblogginlutely.net/mtblogarchive/005731.php
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

      C:
      CD \Windows\System32
      Net stop vss
      Net stop swprv
      regsvr32 ole32.dll
      regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
      Vssvc /Register
      regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
      regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
      regsvr32 es.dll r
      egsvr32 stdprov.dll
      regsvr32 vssui.dll
      regsvr32 msxml.dll
      regsvr32 msxml3.dll
      regsvr32 msxml4.dll

Reboot your server. After reboot, open a command prompt and run: vssadmin list writers
      Look for any errors.
I have already tried the above (your link), as well as 3 other hotfixes linked to on experts-exchange so far. No luck yet.

Is the Volume Shadow Copy service running?

It wasn't when you first asked. However, starting it made no difference.
