  • restore active directory

    Hi,

my server that is my primary DC is malfunction (Hardware + software problem) i need to replace the disk and install the DC again.
i've a full system state backup (NTBACKUP) my question is about the restore of the active directory - i install my server with the same name and same hotfix + sp.
what about the active directory itself,do i need to install it and then restore from the NTBACKUP?
or after the windows and sp are installed i go to the restore active directory and this will build my AD from top to bottom?

          Re: restore active directory

my question was - do i need to run DC promo on the new server or just restore the AD from the backup without the DC promo and the domain will be up and running?

Do not dcpromo. It should be a workgroup member with the same name and service pack level.

that link doesn't explain how to perform a restore but only the difference kinds of restore.

                check that out.
