  • DNS losing forward lookup zone entries

Twice in the last month I've come into the office with users complaining that they can't access the network or e-mail. Looking in Event viewer on the DC there are no errors.

My exchange 2007 server cannot list any mailboxes or any other info and displays an error saying it cannot find the domain.

Looking in DNS under Forward Lookup Zones [domain name] I see that _msdcs, _sites, _tcp, _udp, DomainDnsZones and ForestDnsZones are missing. The only thing there is ca.

To fix this I need to run netdiag /fix and everything starts working correctly.

What would cause all these entries to go missing? How can I fix this so that it doesn't happen again?

I haven't seen this before, neither this thread actually

      Anything in the event viewers?
Have you enabled auditing to see who or what is doing this?
Have you enabled the logging in the DNS tab?

I think you need to give us more info on your setup including sites, DNS settings, servers, DCs etc.
        cheers

It could be your DC has stopped refreshing its records (default every 24 hours) and they get deleted when the zone is scavenged.

I found the following link on Microsoft's website.
            http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310568/en-us

This could be the solution to my problem.
