  • DNS server has no records for the DC

I am running server 2003 R2 with 2 DC's, the one I recently promoted keeps getting this error.

    netdiag /test:dns

    DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
[WARNING] The DNS entries for this DC are not registered correctly on DNS se
rver '192.168.168.202'. Please wait for 30 minutes for DNS server replication.
[WARNING] The DNS entries for this DC are not registered correctly on DNS se
rver '192.168.168.2'. Please wait for 30 minutes for DNS server replication.
[FATAL] No DNS servers have the DNS records for this DC registered.

I have checked NSlookup/dns mgt and there are identical records for both DC

    netdiag /test: DcList
    Dc list test....passed
    found DC 'xxx' in domain

I am not too sure what you would need to help me so please ask me to post information if you need it.

Re: DNS server has no records for the DC

Run Netdiag /fix on all DC's.
This should (re-)place all records which are needed for the DC's.

Re: DNS server has no records for the DC

You could also change your DC to use this DNS server as primary and restart the netlogon service.

Do you have both servers setup with the other as primary and themselves as secondary in the bindings?
Are there any errors in the event log as well.
      cheers

Re: DNS server has no records for the DC

Try restarting netlogon on one of the boxes.

Is the DNS Service running on these servers?
Are there any other logs in the event log?

Can you change their DNS settings as I suggested previously and restart them one at a time (wait for them to boot)?
Is there a firewall on them.

Can you give some more info as well. I see one is a virtal machine etc..
          cheers
