  • VNC style function built in to server 2003?

We are running a 2003 server as a terminal server and really like the ability to remotely connect to a session and help a user by controlling the keyboard and mouse for them.

I am wondering if I can do this from XP to XP or 2003 to XP without using a 3rd party software like VNC or gotomypc...

I can remote desktop all day thats no problem, I would like to be able to join the session.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one...

Is there a way for the administrator to initiate the session though?

Look into the 'shadow' command. http://www.google.com/search?q=shadow+session+windows

          Does that work for you?

Yes, it looks like the "Offer Remote Assistance" will work for me. I can use a group policy to make the necessary settings on the workstations to turn it on and adjust the firewall settings.

I found an article that showed how to make a desktop shortcut right to the prompt for computer name/ip address. Just right click and create new short cut and point to "%windir%\explorer.exe "hcp://CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington, C=US/Remote%20Assistance/Escalation/Unsolicited/Unsolicitedrcui.htm"

I looked at the RDP shadowing it appears that you would need 2 2003 enterprise sessions to and and the second person joins the first person established rdp to the xp box in question. Quite complicated.
