  • File migration from 2000 to 2003

    Hello all:

I started this thread so that i wouldn't cause problems with the other thread that is talking about this.

I am moving a file server to 2003 from a 2000 box and would like to know if you did the following how many problems would there be.

    1. do a backup of all data including permissions and then restoring onto new 2003 box

    2. shut down the old file server and rename new 2003 box the same as the old 2k box along with the same ip.

Is this possible and if so is it going to cause me a pile of headaches as i am getting short on hair

Mods: if you think I should have posted in the other thread please move

    thanks

I would do it a bit different:

Copy files to the new server with robocopy.
Copy shares with the hyena or copy the part of the registry which is holding the share information (can't look it up cause currently I'm on a mac)
adjust loginscripts or rename the new server.
