  • Migrating Windows 2000 File Server to Windows 2003

    Hey all,
I am in the process of upgrading the hardware and OS of my Windows 2000 file server and I was wondering if there are any Microsoft tools that will help me do this and possibly keep it seemless to the user. I know that I can use DFS to keep the share names and paths the same but I'm not quite sure what I can use to migrate the data over. Any advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you use DFS you can replicate it over then remove the target pointing to the old server.

If you do it manually just NTBackup the folders and then restore to the new server while preserving permissions, then just update drive mappings.

      Hi,

Even file migration toolkit will help you alot for migrating the data from one FS to another FS.
