  • RPC server not available

Running all kinds of command, such as repadmin and so forth gives me "The RPC server is not available" a lot.

What can this mean or point to?

    Thanks

It could mean that the server has a firewall on it or that a firewall is in the way of allowing the connection.

Should I not have windows firewall running? We do have a hardware firewall installed as well. What ports need to be opened?

      Thanks

Are the servers all on the same subnet???

Personally i don't have the windows firewall enabled on any server.

No, all servers are at different sites on different subnets. One being out of state. I'll try disabling the firewall and see if that helps.

So they will all be connected via a VPN or dedicated line then???

Do you have your hardware firewalls set to all all traffic along the VPN tunnel??

They all have public IP's and belong to the same domain. Should it be setup another way?

Please make a drawing and include all firewalls within the drawing.
I'm a bit afraid of your current configuration.

I have to agree with Marcel on this one.

Never ever have a mission critical server on the internet with a Public IP.

Please post your network as it is.

You never heard the term "the cloud?" Probably too "old school" for you. LOL

Yes, that was where I already was afraid off..

Buy as soon as possible a firewall for the remote site and build up a site-to-site vpn!
