How do you properly setup a multi-homed server with dual nic cards? Can it be done with two different subnets?

    I have:

    10.10.10.x
    255.255.255.0

    &

    69.69.69.x
    255.255.255.192

When I try and use this I get an error stating you can't use two different gateways on disjoints networks.

Can it be done either using both nics? Can it be done using one nic?

    Thanks.

    Re: Multi-homed Server Setup

Use Routing and Remote access to enable Lan connectivity.

I have my normal network range (10.1.1.x) and I have a test network range (192.168.0.x) One of my servers have two nics, one set-up with 192.168.0.1 and the other with 10.1.1.5 adn Routing and remote access enabled. I also have a static route on my router to direct all traffic destined to 192.168.0.x network to 10.1.1.5. I can then ping / rdc onto any server in the 10.1.1.x and 192.168.0.x subnets.

Is this what your talking about?

      Re: Multi-homed Server Setup

This is what I am looking at:

      router<69.69.69.x
      ^
      ^
      69.69.69.x
      firewall<
      10.10.10.x
      ^
      ^
      Server

I too need to be able to RDC into the server for remoter administration. Right now I have one of the nics configured for the 10.10.10.x network with a gateway of 10.10.10.1. I have the other nic configred for the 69.69.69.x network with a gateway of 69.69.69.1. Presently I can RDC into this server no prob, the question is, whether it is setup correctly this way. When I did first set it up, I got a warning about the two different gateways being used with disjoints networks, but I went ahead and saved it like that anyway.

      Any advice?
